About this property

Welcome to Hotel Tropicus

Situated in the vibrant Zona Romántica neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, this 4-star property offers a straightforward and practical stay just steps from lively bars, galleries, and a variety of restaurants. Guests can enjoy convenient access to Los Muertos Beach and the iconic Los Muertos pier, placing the hotel at the heart of one of the city’s most active areas. The nearby Puerto Vallarta Malecon and the famous Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe are also within easy reach for cultural and scenic outings.

The property features air-conditioned accommodations with kitchens available in some rooms, catering to travelers seeking a degree of independence during their visit. While it does not offer on-site dining, parking, or a fitness center, an airport shuttle service is provided. Free Wi-Fi is available, though the hotel is not pet-friendly and lacks accessible facilities. Recent renovations have improved communal spaces and some guestrooms, although some visitors note the rooms reflect a blend of older and updated elements.

Guests often highlight the central location, which places them within walking distance of a bustling nightlife and numerous dining options, including late-night taco stands and a 24-hour convenience store attached to the building. The lively surroundings and party atmosphere contribute to noise levels into the early hours, so this hotel suits visitors comfortable with an energetic urban setting rather than those seeking quiet seclusion.

Staff members receive praise for their friendliness and helpfulness, enhancing the practical experience of guests. Reviews sometimes mention that sound insulation could be better and that certain operational practices, such as locking front doors at night, might pose inconveniences. Overall, the property fits travelers looking for affordable, spacious rooms in a central location to experience Viejo Vallarta’s local culture and nightlife.

I have stayed at Hotel Tropicus a total of 4 times now and every time the stay has been fantastic. They are currently in the midst of some renovations and the lobby has been ompletely redone. It looks fantastic- it reminds me of an old school South Beach motel. The rooms are in the process of being updated but the room I stayed in last week had been updated and also looks great. Location: If you are looking to be in the heart of town with all the bars, restaurants and walking distance to the beach there is no better location than this hotel. There is also some taco stands right outside that sell tacos well into the night for after you go out. Additionally, a 24 hour Oxxo is attached to the building so its extremely convenient. Staff: Every staff member I have encountered has been extremely friendly and accommodating. Anna at the front desk is phenomenal and always greets with a smile and friendly face. It's always a pleasure seeing her when I visit. Noise: This is Mexico, you are in the heart of town, there will be noise at all hours. If you cannot handle that then you should not be staying in the heart of town to begin with. My only complaint is the current overnight shift girl who I did not catch the name of, but she is very friendly. She locks the front doors at night, so when returning from the bars you have to knock or sometimes stand outside a few minutes as she is closed off in a closet behind the front desk watching tv. This is extremely inconvenient and not something that I experienced any other visit at the property. One night I even came back to change outfits as someone spilled a drink on me and I intended to go back out and she seemed annoyed that she would have to unlock the doors multiple times for me. The solution is stop locking the doors to begin with. It is not necessary and not a good experience for the guests. If she is uncomfortable with the doors unlocked she should find a new job. Hopefully that gets resolved. Otherwise, everything is fantastic as always :)

Newly remodeled. Clean. Friendly. Affordable. Spacious rooms. This is the perfect way to experience a taste of Viejo Vallarta (Old Town), with the benefit of modern conveniences. Multiple options from singles to kitchenettes, some rooms with balconies and terrazas. Five blocks from the beach and in the infamous Zona Romántica. SO many restaurants in walking distance, with the best food I have ever eaten. I'm confident you will be comfortable here.

We booked a bit late for New Year's Eve and this was the only affordable property still available. They put us in the terrace suite, which had a living area with a fridge and microwave. Hot water was plentiful and there was a balcony. Yes, the area is very noisy, and they could have better windows, hence taking away 1 star. However, my partner had COVID during his stay and they did a great job accomodating his quarantine, including extending the room for 2 more days and giving us a WhatsApp number for the front desk so he can text if he needs anything. Therefore, this is a great welcoming place to stay in my book.

Great hotel. Nice spacious rooms. Close to all my favorites spots. But one thing it is very noisy outside. Windows are thin so you can hear everything. But either then that it’s a great place.

I liked the location of the hotel which is very close to restaurants and bars. It’s also walking distance to beach and we could get the fresh breeze every morning. There was literally no hot water and we showered with cold water there isn’t any blanket in the room by default but you can get one upon request. I also asked for a hair dryer and I got one. Staffs are super friendly and helpful, whatever I needed I had shortly. There were too many insects and ants in the room but I think that’s because of moisture and isn’t cleaning issue. Whenever we asked for room cleaning, the staff did it quickly and also they supplied us with shampoo and soap upon request and after each cleaning. There is a one 24/7 grocery store in front of the hotel with good prices which makes your hotel stay easier. Your room may be a little bit noisy at night but we actually didn’t pay much attention to that since we were very tired at nights and we fall asleep in a second Totally I think Hotel Tropicus it’s a good choice if you like night life, beach and different restaurant options.

I stayed here for a week before my apartment was ready. The location is perfect, directly on the middle of the restaurant, club and shopping zone. The staff are incredibly attentive and nice. The rooms are older but big, and mine had a huge patio. Internet was good, and plenty of hot water, a small kitchen, and very clean.

Great location and spacious rooms. No soap in the bathroom. Be aware that you might not sleep till 4 am, since it's located in one of the "party" areas of Zona Romantica. Friendly and helpful front desk staff.

Within walking distance to the beach and everything else in Zona Romantica, the price is ideal and the room I got had a balcony perfect for drying my clothes from a day at the beach. Had a futon in the living room and a fridge which was a bonus! Across the street is this taco cart and a few steps away is an OXXO. Only gripe is that it gets very loud at night with the music blasting across the street but after a day of activities in beautiful Vallarta you’ll sleep like a baby in less than an hour.
